Temple Lodge No. 8

Building on a foundation established in 1854, the mission of Temple Lodge No. 8 is to foster a brotherhood of high moral character, dedicated to the service of the Milford community: honoring the past by preserving its Masonic heritage, and building the future through charitable works and the mentorship of leaders who will carry its light for generations to come.

Temple Lodge No. 8 was founded in 1854 by Worshipful Master Goslee. The earliest meetings took place at the Elks Hall on Church Street in Milford. Following a significant first Third Degree raising at Milton Lodge (Rising Sun No. 4), led by Reverend D. A. Downing, Temple Lodge No. 8 was established on Church Street Extended.

The lodge stands as a monument to the resilience of its members: its mortgage payoff and subsequent improvements were achieved through the dedicated efforts of members who, among other endeavors, operated the building as a teen dance hall on weekends to raise the necessary funds. Though an earlier written history was lost, the lodge now safeguards its records to prevent future losses.
